Entry: Cost Benefit analysis (CBA)
URI: https://data.geoscience.earth/ncl/misc/82
CBA draws on the principles of welfare economics and public finance, which provide the theoretical foundations for a general framework within which costs and benefits are identified and assessed from society’s perspective. CBA is specifically designed for the evaluation of public projects, and the project outcome is always evaluated on the basis of public interest. Costs and benefits are measured in terms of social utility gains and losses rather than cash or revenue flows, and external costs and benefits are included in the overall evaluation of a project. In addition, unlike financial analysis, where all relevant cost and benefit items are measured in observed market prices, valuation in CBA is made by prices corrected for possible market distortions.
