en Note 1 to entry: Sample can be taken randomly within the stratum (stratified random sample) or at predefined regularly arranged sampling points (3.418) (stratified regular sample).
en Note 2 to entry: The purpose of taking stratified samples is to obtain a more representative sample (3.387) than that which can otherwise be obtained by random sampling (3.410).
