de Behandlung, bei der das kontaminierte Medium (z. B. Boden) auf eine Temperatur gebracht wird, bei der eine thermische Zerstörung der Kontaminanten erfolgt. Note: Organische Kontaminanten können im Behandlungsbett verbrennen oder verdampfen. Sie können anschließend oberhalb des Behandlungsbetts oder in einem Nachbrennofen weiterbrennen. Einige organische Kontaminanten, z. B. Cyanid, können ebenfalls zerstört werden. Flüchtige anorganische Substanzen (z. B. Quecksilber) können teilweise oder vollständig verdampfen und sind in einem nachgeschalteten Gasreinigungssystem aufzufangen.
