Note: Die erste Reihe von Teilmengen (Einheiten oder Einzelproben) der für die Beprobung zur Verfügung stehenden Grundgesamtheit ist die Ausgangsprobe. Die nachfolgenden Proben (Sekundär-, Tertiär-, usw.) sind die Reihe von Teilproben, Einheiten, Stücken, Individuen oder Einzelproben, die aus der vorangehenden Stufe entnommen wurden. Die Einheiten können bei den verschiedenen Stufen der mehrstufigen Probenahme unterschiedlich sein.
